Short Bio
Sonya Naumov is a local Central Coast artist, illustrator, laserist, tutor and designer who specialises in botanical and wildlife subjects and creates artwork in a large variety of mediums and styles and in both digital and traditional techniques.
Sonya studied at the University of Newcastle where she was the first in Australia to receive a Master of Design degree by research specialising in illustration in 2001 and also has a Graduate Diploma in Art (Wildlife Illustration) and a Bachelor of Arts (Visual Arts) degree. Sonya's research explored how digital technology, including the Internet and 3d computer illustration and animation, could be utilised as a tool in wildlife illustration and as a means of dissemination of these images and to communicate environmental concerns to the public. A major focus of the study was in digital applications to scientific taxonomic illustration.
Sonya has also worked as a freelance illustrator and designer for over two decades and has tutored at various educational institutions including the University of Newcastle and Sydney WEA. Sonya has produced about 500 illustrations for numerous Better Homes and Gardens publications (Murdoch Books) and has had artwork and articles published in magazines, has illustrated the Australian Menagerie™ board game as well as having her own series of greeting cards - "From Rainforest to Reef" published. She has been the artist in residence at The Wetland Centre in Shortland and has been involved in local community arts projects.

Research
Sonya Naumov completed a Master of Design degree in 2001 specialising in wildlife illustration through the University of Newcastle, Australia, and was the first to do so in Australia. Sonya's research explored how digital technology, including the Internet and 3D computer illustration, could be utilised as a tool in wildlife illustration and as a means of dissemination of these images. A major part of the study was in digital applications to scientific illustration. It is through these studies that Sonya became interested in Web design and 3D imaging and the possibilities of using the web to communicate environmental concerns to the public as well and helping people with their health and well-being.
Curriculum Vitae

- Laserist: Animated laser illustrations and shows for Light Design Australia
- Medical and technical illustrations for Get Fit to Golf
- Illustrating the educational environmental board game and addons "Australian Menagerie™" produced by Wild Connections and sold in various outlets around the country including the Australian Geographic Stores.
- Painting a 10m long panoramic mural in oils at The Wetlands Centre, Newcastle
- Produced a series of greeting cards in mixed media (airbrushing, watercolour, colour pencil and gouache) "From Rainforest to Reef"
- Producing web sites for the Design Department and NUPSA at the University of Newcastle, Australia.
- Illustrating 22 books (approximately 500 botanical and technical illustrations) for Better Homes and Gardens, Murdoch Books, Sydney.
- Teaching at the WEA Sydney, Central Coast Community College Ourimbah and the National Trust Gallery Sydney in illustration and botanical illustration.
- Tutoring in wildlife illustration for the Design Department, University of Newcastle, Australia
- Producing web sites and digital multimedia book presentation based on the Wetlands Centre, Australia
- Writing articles in art magazines.
- Board Member of the Central Coast Collective Inc.
