HOW TO PREPARE ARTWORK FOR HANGING
All artworks on canvas, board or paper materials must be suitably framed with a professional hanging system including all artworks involved in The Central Coast Collective projects. Cotton string and paper staples are NOT acceptable and hanging strings and wires should not be visible above the frame. Please keep in mind that the hanging system reflects your professionalism and is there to keep your artwork safe and hanging on the wall securely for many years and not falling and injuring a person or damaging property. Artworks on canvas do not always require a frame but a D-ring hanging system is definitely required.
WHAT IS ACCEPTABLE:
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Canvases and framed artworks must have D-ring hooks on both sides of the back of the frame and plastic coated stainless steel wire or strong nylon hanging string. Please view the following videos for examples on what is required.
Also please use acid free materials (mat board, backing board and tape) inside your frame to help protect your artworks on paper from mould, foxing, discolouration and damage. Please do not use standard sticky tape, masking tape or blu tack inside or outside your frame. You can get acid free tapes from art supply shops or from a framing shop.
What is Foxing?
Foxing is the brown dots that develop on paper as a result of using papers, boards and tape that have acids in them. Foxing can ruin your artwork so please only use acid free art papers to create your artwork on and acid free materials in your framing.
WHAT IS ACCEPTABLE:
- D-Rings with plastic coated framing wire (D-rings must be pointing towards each other with the wire securely tied to both and with minumum sag). Plastic coated wires prevent the artwork from slipping when on the wall or on a gallery hanging system.
- Framing cord professionally stapled by a framer. For hanging in The Entrance Gallery we require additional D-rings just above the staples pointing upwards for easy and non-slip hanging on the gallery's professional hanging system.
- The hanging system should be attached 1/3 down from the top of the artwork. Any lower and the top of the artwork will hang too far out from the wall.
- See the YouTube videos below for more information.
